As expected, the Iraqi forces begun on Tuesday August 23th 2016 execution of the attack and breaking in plan to liberate Al-Qayyarah district center after finishing preparation and gathering phase and completely liberate the towns and city centers that surround it.
The Iraqi forces realizes the strategic and tactical importance of Al-Qayyarah as bunker where ISIS’s operations activate and start towards the neighboring areas, rather than being in the areas of interest and military influence on the gathering areas for the Iraqi forces assigned to liberating Al-Mosul and its supply paths, and it is a critical area for its safety. In addition, it’s near to the air force base that the Nineveh liberation’s operation leadership made it headquarter for its military operations and an important place for the staying of the American consultants assigned to help the Iraqi forces.
The used tactics in this battle is characterized by slowness but is effective and flexible, and it counts on plans of isolation, encirclement, engagement, cutting supplies of the enemy, and draining what is left of its battling abilities (equipments and supplies) so as to weaken it, break the fighting ground of its elements who fortify in the district, and defeat them. This method was used in previous battles and achieved important results on the liberation level, of which the battle to liberate Al-Fallujah city.
I believe that the battle will fulfill its purposes in the specified time range, the first of which is the liberation of Al-Qayyarah district, securing the surrounding areas, evicting what is left of the terrorist organization elements, and dealing with the groups that insist on engaging and fighting, which is expected as it happened in previous battles. And they are mostly extremist elements who lost the option to escape and flee, so the follow the ideological instinct that drives them to fight to the inevitable end which is certain death.
In my opinion, this battle’s results are resulted from the military point of view, and waiting is the master of the current time until the declaration of anticipated victory, which will pave the way towards liberating Nineveh Governorate, defeating ISIS, and the fall of its collapsed entity.
